Cathay Pacific to offer more legroom, personal TVs in bid to top air rivals

Article Abstract:

Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. will make radical changes to the interior of its aircraft to lure more clients and win more market share from its competitors. Under the $129.3-million project, Cathay will increase staff numbers, enhance food service and other in-flight luxuries, expand legroom and install personal television sets in each of its 14,600 economy class seats. The plan also calls for equipping each aircraft section with facsimile machines and telephones.

Easier to earn points: airlines offer economy frequent-flier plans

Article Abstract:

Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific are making it easier for clients to earn frequent flier miles with innovative programs that allow members to earn points on economy flights. Singapore and Cathay have announced that their respective programs allow members to earn points on car rentals, hotel stays and flights on affiliated carriers even if the flights are economy class.

Tiny New Zealand carrier's expansion puts its larger rival on the defensive

Kiwi Travel International Airlines Ltd. intends to launch a new service between Australia and smaller cities in New Zealand on Aug. 23, 1995. The company hopes to take a significant portion of the New Zealand-Australia air transport market away from dominant players Air New Zealand Ltd. and Qantas Airways Ltd. To achieve this, Kiwi Travel plans to undercut its rivals' fares.
