International energy firms vie for PetroChina plan

Giant global energy companies are lining up to bid with PetroChina Co. on China's ambitious West-East natural gas pipeline project, even though the total cost could equal $18 billion and estimates of the actual gas reserves are not certain. Shenhua rushes to finish mining network by end of year

Article Abstract:

Shenhua Group is hoping to outgrow competition by finishing a $6 billion coal mining project early. The project consists of automated mines, over 800 kilometers of railways, and a seaport which will serve to make the logistics of moving the coal less expensive. In March, China called for the formation of new coal corporations to replace the hundreds of small mines that do not meet environmental or safety standards.

Chevron taps into China's energy output with pact to develop PetroChina gas field

Article Abstract:

PetroChina Company Ltd. has granted US firm Chevron Corp. the right to jointly develop a natural gas field located in the Sichuan province. Chevron was selected over Anglo-Dutch company Royal Dutch Shell PLC, France's Total SA, and Norway's Statoil ASA.
