ChevronTexaco to Acquire Unocal

Article Abstract:

ChevronTexaco Corp. is to acquire Unocal Corp. for approximately $16.8 billion, the largest petroleum industry deal since 2001. Unocal Corp. shares are valued at $62.07 for the acquisition and ChevronTexaco Corp. shares are down $2.33 to $56.98 amidst concerns about overvaluation. Oil futures closed at $57.01 per barrel, yesterday.

European shares fall sharply

Article Abstract:

European shares dropped significantly, driven by concerns over a recession in the US. The FTSE 100 Index fell 1.3% to 5,811.40, while the pan-European Dow Jones Stoxx 600 index dropped 1.5% to reach 314.30. Germany's DAX30 index declined 1.4% to reach 6,651.51, and France's CAC-40 index lost 1.4% to reach 4,724.78.
