China's car makers break out of the pack

Article Abstract:

China's domestic automobile brands attained in February the largest portion of what is currently the second-largest vehicle market worldwide, reaching a 29.1% market share that tops Japan's 28.3%. The country's leading seller of domestic-brand vehicles is Chery Automobile Co., which rose during the first two months of 2007 to number three in sales volume behind a China-U.S. joint venture and a European-Chinese partnership.

Toyota maps plan to displace GM as top car maker

Article Abstract:

Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan is making strategic plans to win top spot in automobile sales from General Motors Corp. It is speculated the Japanese giant will increase production by 11 percent to 9.2 million cars next year. General Motors Corp. has a 14 percent market share, selling 8.99 million cars in 2004, while Ford Motor Co. (the third largest by market share) sold 6.98 million last year.

Can the new-look Malibu help jump-start Chevy?

In an attempt to recapture market share, General Motors Corp. is introducing a new version of the Chevrolet Malibu sedan. The Malibu, priced at under $30,000, will be available in 2008. Chevrolet is planning to restyle more cars in the future.
