Chinese traders at the door

China's entry into the World Trade Organization, which once seemed all but certain, has been delayed primarily because of the continuing frustrations of trying to do business in the country. China seems to be attempting to make offers to individual countries, rather than a general opening of services.

Trade, and America's family feud: a confrontation between the United States and the World Trade Organisation over the Helms-Burton act is in nobody's interests

Article Abstract:

The US has refused to cooperate with a WTO panel who are investigating a complaint by the European Union that the Helms-Burton, which sanctions non- US firms that deal with Cuba, violates WTO rules. The law was a mistake, and Pres Clinton should try to resolve the matter without a panel.
