Article Abstract:

There is the view that urban center cogestion can restrict a male's freedom. A thriving center needs some congestion, although it could increase the dullness of a person's life, according to Institute of Ideas Science and Society director Tony Gilland. Nevertheless various European cities have made efforts to reduce vehicular traffic, one example being Copenhagen.

CABE deputy chair Paul Finch was among the speakers in the Bartlett's Think Space lecture series "Whatever Happened to Criticism--A Review of the Architectural Media." The RIBA Gold Medal was among the matters criticized by Finch. He believes that architecture and design may have become more notable in papers and television, but there is little critical content.

Chris Smith, a member of Parliament, gave a lecture at the London School of Economics concerning Lottery financed urban renewal efforts. Smith noted the importance of the artistic nature of architects, but did not reveal much about design quality as such.
