Clinging to the wreckage

Article Abstract:

The Indian banking industry has been wracked by a large securities scam which was unraveled at the end of Apr 1992. Law enforcement groups in the country, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation, were implicated in the scam. The securities fiasco involved the investing of fraudulently raised money in the stockmarket of Bombay. The money came from banks which granted loans without collateral to people who presented to them fake receipts. Citibank N.A. and Bank of America are two of the foreign banks that are reportedly involved in the scandal.
