Close watch on fishing zones

Article Abstract:

In order to curtail illegal fishing in its waters, Namibia has developed a fishing monitoring control and surveillance system, which is proving to be very effective. Namibia is also planning to link its vessel monitoring system to that in Angola and South Africa for sharing the data mutually. The successful patrol carried out by Namibia's Anna Kakurukaze Mungunda is discussed.

South Africa tests novel flotation aid

The features and advantages of a unique floatation device that is being made by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) in association with lifejacket makers in order to help the fishermen follow the South African law that requires them to wear a floatation device inside one nautical mile from the shore are mentioned.

Rock lobster stocks recover - after Hout Bay fiasco

Article Abstract:

The benefits that are likely to accrue to West Coast rock lobster fishing on implementation of long-term fishing rights in South Africa are discussed. There is considerable improvement in the rock lobster stocks also.
