Post-apartheid planning for the new South Africa

Article Abstract:

Town planning in South Africa before the ending of apartheid concentrated on keeping blacks and whites in separate communities. The black population were only allowed to enter white areas to work for the white people. Both the towns and countryside inhabited by blacks show high unemployment and bad health and housing. Future planning needs to address these problems and give all members of the community a say in their environment.

'Planning away' a low cost energy resource

Article Abstract:

Some writers see opencast coal mining in the UK as providing a cheap and efficient energy source. Environmentalists are against this form of energy, but UK sites are usually worked out in a short time and are quite small.
