Contemplating retirement is now a young man's game

Article Abstract:

People who are now young must learn the skills they will need as they grow older in an aging society. We cannot continue to expect people who are forced to leave work in their fifties to spend the rest of their lives in a non-existent future. People who carved out a work identity find that something significant is missing in their lives at retirement. Steps for retirement must be taken while still employed. People may need to establish an identity outside of work, and to revise ideas about achievement and success. It is possible to continue to be active upon retirement, whether by starting a new business, pursuing art, or politics. Identity does not have to be woven completely into career ambitions.

It's written in nature, not in the stars

Article Abstract:

Medical science is based on logic, and the scientific technique is essential to the assessment of new treatments, which is one reason the medical profession avoids relying on astrology or natural remedies for treatment. Astrology is not used because research has revealed that the use of astrology for the purpose of medical diagnosis is no better than the level of chance and is best suited for entertainment purposes. Natural remedies are not used because generally they are not more effective than human-manufactured remedies and are often more dangerous. The medical profession must protect the public and patients by the most effective means and must continue to rely on so-called unnatural remedies.

GERD: an old condition with new forms of treatment

Article Abstract:

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a common and treatable disease causing irritation in the esophagus and 'heartburn' pain. GERD is caused by leakage of stomach acid into the esophagus which is normally protected by a sphincter valve at the bottom of the esophagus. The stomach acid causes a burning sensation when it comes in contact with nerve endings in the esophageal lining. GERD occurs most often in people who are over weight or people who have 'hiatus hernia' where the acid producing stomach lining has slipped through the sphincter and come in contact with the esophagus. GERD can be diagnosed without complex tests and it can be treated with H2 blockers commonly used on ulcers.
