Continente pide a sus proveedores que le paguen la compara de Simago

Article Abstract:

After purchasing the Simago supermarket chain in Spain, French-owned hypermarket operator Continente is reportedly trying to get its suppliers to help pay for the acquisition. With a focus on becoming the leading supermarket chain over a three-year period, Continente is reportedly using Simago to raise hopes of the suppliers to ask for 1.5% of sales in exchange for new growth potential. Suppliers are also asked to pay a canon for new references and store openings, as well as a charge for merchandising. In some cases suppliers can be asked to pay up to 4% of sales, although the average per supplier is around 2%. With sales in Spain amounting to Pta 850,000mn for the Promodes group, what Continente is asking suppliers for amounts to around Pta 17,000mn, which is around the price paid for the Simago supermarket chain. So far, none or very few suppliers have given into to Continente's request, which suppliers are calling 'draconian'.

Las grandes superficies, a favor de un 'codigo etico' con los proveedores

Article Abstract:

The Spanish large retailers association, Anged, is prepared to help put together a 'Code of Ethics' to regulate the relationship between retailers and their suppliers. Anged would collaborate with the Secretary of State for Commerce which is currently working on a project which proposes the establishment of an official seal which would be used to identify those participating in the programme. The draft code covers areas such as mutual agreements regarding contract modification, non-discrimination of clients by the retailers, as well as how to bill for, and what conditions must be met, regarding 'own brand' products.
