Convert to art

Article Abstract:

Architect firm Levitt Bernstein has converted a school in Birmingham, UK, into a building to house the Ikon Gallery. The Gothic-styled school was originally built in 1877, offering scope for conversion into a gallery. A glass tower was built onto the building providing light and a lift shaft. The addition of a basement provided extra space for storage and workshops. Restaurant and shop facilities are located on the ground floor while the art galleries are located on the top floor.

Sculpture serving the imagination

Article Abstract:

The John Gibbons: Form & Metaphor exhibition at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge feature some of the artist's sculptures in steel. The sculptures date from 1990-1996 and include Island Forest Sky, The Wedding Feast and The Alliance. The recent pieces reflect a change in direction for Gibbons from using steel scrap, to the use of rods of virgin steel with subdued colouring, in September and The Book.
