Corning says 1st-quarter profit will top forecasts

Corning Inc. forecasted that it will post higher-than-expected earnings for the 2000 first-quarter. The company expects to post earnings of 53 US cents to 55 US cents (54.7 European cents to 56.8 European cents) per share for the period.
