Thomas Heatherwick states that he likes to be seen as a '3D designer,' developing sculptural forms with a functional use or serviceable structures with decorative attractions. He dislikes the fact that architecture is still regarded as a two-dimensional art form.

The history of British housing policy since 1951 is discussed. The decline in standards of amenities, the lack of communal spaces and reduction in the size of rooms since the 1950s experiment of Lansbury Estate are examined.
