Czechs launch largest international equity offer

Article Abstract:

It has been suggested some former legislators in the Czech Republic government received payments from the Telesource consortium which successfully bid for SPT Telecom in 1995. Over $134 million is expected to be raised by the sale of equity in Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRa). The management of CRa point out the money raised by the offer will be used to fund expansion plans. Investments in CRa offers investors the chance to be part of the growing telecommunication market in Central and Eastern Europe. The offer has been oversubscribed, with demand reaching $800 million.

Deal of the month: Swisscom success story

Article Abstract:

The privatization of Swisscom involved a global offering on Oct 4, 1998, at Sfr340 per share. Only 70,000 Swiss private investors subscribed to the issue, even though 440,000 potential purchasers initially registered to obtain details of the deal. The sale, the largest initial public offering in Europe in 1998, raised $4.8 billion for the Swiss government and Swisscom, and was almost three time subscribed. Foreign demand was boosted by the company's above-average profit prospects.
