DANISCO VINDER KAMP OM LITAUISK SUKKER

Article Abstract:

The Danish group Danisco is to acquire a 53% stake in Kedainia Cukrus, the most technically advanced sugar plant in Lithuania. The stake will be acquired through a capital injection totalling DKr 61mn (USD 9mn). Danisco is supported by Vilniaus Prekyba, a trading company which hitherto controls 40% of Kedainia Cukrus. Its financial advisor Ignasias Staskevicius prefers Danisco to the other potential buyers, the German group Zudzucker and Nordzucker. There is still uncertainty about the measures to be taken by sugar beet producers who own 50% of the company. However, they are not likely to be able to prevent the acquisition, even though they have been critical against a dominating investor in the Lithuanian sugar industry, the paper writes.
