DENMARK: NATURAL GAS SUPPLY BILL CRITICISED

Article Abstract:

The Danish Competition Authority levels criticism of the proposed amendments to the act relating to the supply of natural gas in Denmark, which aims to facilitate the deregulation of the natural gas market in the country. The Competition Authority is critical of the fact that environment and energy minister Svend Auken be given the authorities that are held by the Energy Authority according to the present law. The authority says, however, that a positive aspect about the new bill is that state-owned DONG be split into three companies so as to secure tighter competition in the market without cross-subsidies between deregulated and monopoly areas.

DENMARK: BALTIC STRUGGLE FOR GAS COMPANIES

Article Abstract:

Two Danish gas suppliers - state-owned DONG and Sjaellands Kraftvaerker (SK) - both struggle two win important advantages on a free gas market. Both companies are involved in large projects with foreign companies. DONG is working with Polish gas company POGC to establish a "Baltic Pipe" from Denmark to Poland. Just recently, German giant Ruhrgas expressed interest in the Baltic Pipe, which is hoped to secure a considerable increase in DONG's exports. SK's project involves a pipeline from Denmark, via Sweden to Rostock, Germany. Sweden's Sydkraft, Norway's Norsk Hydro and Germany's VNG are all involved in the project.

DENMARK: INDUSTRY CRITICAL OF THE NEW GAS AGREEMENT

Article Abstract:

Indukraft, the association of the biggest gas clients in Denmark, is critical of the agreement reached between the government and the five political parties regarding the natural gas act and wants the European Commission to take a closer look at the Danish gas deregulation agreement. Indukraft is critical of the fact that the new agreement does not state the minimum requirements for when the extended deregulation of the Danish natural gas market is to take place. It is also concerned about that the agreement does not give gas clients with a consumption of more than 25kbm/year free access to the market.
