DENMARK: NEW CEO ON DONG

Article Abstract:

The newly-elected CEO of DONG, Anders Eldrup, says in order to succeed on the fully deregulated energy market in Europe the company aims to use consolidation and infrastructure projects. The first challenge will be to set up a network of pipelines that will make the company competitive on the deregulated gas market. DONG has already signed an agreement with the Polish state about the supply of 16bn cubic metres of gas in the next eight years. DONG is also making efforts to lay a cable to the UK. DONG is to be split up into five companies, which is to make sure that Denmark meets the EU gas directive. When asked when DONG will be privatised or partly sold Anders Eldrup refers to the owners saying it is up to them to decide. According to Eldrup, DONG's future role will be to offer a broad range of energy services, which requires co-operation with other energy service suppliers. DONG's role as operator and explorer in the North Sea will also be extended.

DENMARK:EU TO EXAMINE SUBSIDIES TO DANISH POWER SECTOR

Article Abstract:

The Danish parliament is to pass the final laws in the so-called power package, which aims to make it possible for Danish power stations to cope with the transition from a monopoly situation to a deregulated electricity market. The European Commission, however, is to examine whether the package contains illegal state subsidies to the electricity sector.
