DENMARK: NEW REPORT SUPPORTS BREWERS' VIEWS

Article Abstract:

A new report by the Danish Competition Authority shows that Danish beer and soft-drink prices are fair. Thus, it is not the breweries that are responsible for the fact that 20% of Danish beer purchases are done in Germany. It is the extra costs for selling beer in Denmark that justify the higher beer prices in Denmark compared with Germany. Niels Hald, head of the Danish Association of Breweries welcomes the results of the report saying that the results give further evidence against the Danish ban on the use of cans for beer and soft-drinks. Environment minister Svend Auken, however, is a keen supporter of the Danish ban on cans.
