Korean chip maker sells unit: Hyundai Electronics disposes of packaging arm

Article Abstract:

Hyundai Electronics Industries Co has sold its semiconductor packaging subsidiary, ChipPAC Co to a group headed by Bain Capital Inc and Citicorp Venture Capital Ltd. The move is part of the company's efforts to raise funds for its acquisition of competitor LG Semicon Co under a government-led corporate reorganization plan. The acquisition would make Hyundai the world's biggest dynamic random-access memory chip manufacturer.

Daewoo Group likely to be dismantled in restructuring; only auto-related operations expected to remain, with conglomerate's other units sold off

Article Abstract:

The restructuring move being planned by the Daewoo Group may possibly lead to the complete dismantlement of the company. This, according to South Korea's Financial supervisory Commission spokesman Kim Young Jae who stated that Daewoo Group may be left only with its automobile-related businesses after doing away with its other units consisting of shipbuilding, electronics, construction and finance. Therefore, the government has readied itself for the task of stemming the potential fallout for investment trust companies.
