BMW says Rover appears on track to profitability

Article Abstract:

Several strategies are planned by BMW AG to stem the bleeding of its Rover unit. Inefficient production facilities and buying from vendors who price in pounds rather euros will be among the changes. Rover lost even more money in 1999 than it did in 1998. The company hopes to be in the black by 2002.

DaimlerChrysler warns on U.S. unit; incentive spending cited as factor in third-quarter operating loss

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler's United States unit will post financial results that are down more than a half billion dollars for the third quarter of 2000. Sales incentives are being cited as part of the reason. There is also concern at the continued loss of U.S. executives in the German automaking conglomerate. Thomas Gale announced he will retire at the end of the year. Mr. Gale is Chrysler's design chief.
