Arcor stokes German phone-rate war

Article Abstract:

Mannesman Arcor AG has announced it will cut telephone rates by up to 54% in Jan 1999. Mannesman Arcor will also simplify its domestic long distance billing, making all of Germany one rate zone and reducing calling periods to just two. O.tel.o Communications GmbH said that its own prices would also have to fall to match Arcor's, which would put pressure on profit margins. Deutsche Telekom said that its planned price cuts, which must be approved by German regulators, would cost as much as 6 billion DM in lost revenue in 1999.

Airbus sees bigger jets as Boeing begs to differ

Article Abstract:

Airbus Industrie and Boeing are both expecting the commercial jetliner market to approximate $1.3 trillion between 1999 and 2019, but each manufacturer has different projections about the market's likely composition during that period. Boeing expects a demand for about 20,150 new passenger and cargo planes over the next 20 years, while Airbus predicts a demand for 15,518 airplanes yielding $1.29 trillion. Boeing includes airplanes as small as 50 seats in its projections, while Airbus sets a lower limit of 70 seats.
