Deal with ING Group unit boosts Vanda Systems' allure

Article Abstract:

Vanda Systems & Communications Holdings Ltd. has gained investor interest following its declaration that it will sell $10 million of convertible bonds to the Baring Asia Private Equity Fund. The deal with the Hong Kong-based computer-systems firm will make the ING Group division Vanda's second-largest shareholder, as it will have as much as 28% of the company's shares outstanding. A supplier of computer-system integration technology to banking and financial companies in China, Vanda also markets telecommunications services, develops software and sells personal computers in Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia.

iMac draws enthusiasts: in Hong Kong, fans and novices flock to stores

Article Abstract:

Apple Computer Inc has launched its iMac desktop computer in Hong Kong in the first half of Oct 1998. The latest product, which retails for HK$ 10,480, has posted strong sales across most computer stores. Apple distributors have even placed advanced orders for iMac due to expected demand and possible supply problems. The desktop PC runs on a 233 MHz processor, has a built-in monitor and speaker and features a 56K modem.
