Sixties spirit begs nineties questions

Article Abstract:

Two architecture exhibitions are reviewed. Portable Architecture is being held at the RIBA Architecture Centre in London, and it provides a mystic vision of the 1960s. It gives an impression of temporary architecture, featuring Ron Herron's Walking City, and Richard Horden's Skihaus. The Spontaneous Construction exhibition is being held at the Building Centre in London and is less ambitious that the RIBA exhibition, limited to familiar images and simple screens, offering a history of portable architecture.

Decade that calls for a sharper critique

Article Abstract:

The Modern Britain 1929-1939 exhibition is being held at the Design Museum, Shad Thames in London until June. The Design Museum relates the creativity of the 1930s to the current creative revolution, through a series of short films. A central theme of the exhibition implies a connection between different media, with installations by Foster and graphic artist Per Arnoldi. Visitors are constantly reminded of dates for important events, woven through small displays such as Gordon Russell and Isokon furniture.

More than just the British library

Article Abstract:

The RIBA Heinz Gallery in London, England, is currently holding an exhibition of the work of architect Colin St John Wilson. He is most well known for his work on the British Library, but visitors are made aware that he has also been involved in a range of other projects. The exhibition offers a surprising insight into the British Library, and reflects Wilson's erudition, attention to proportion and sensitivity to art.
