Defining the middle class

Article Abstract:

A study released by the NLI Research Institute showed that the 'middle class' in East Asia does not conform to the concept of middle class in the US and Europe and that different East Asian cultures are bound to affect the values, lifestyles and buying preferences of their respective middle classes. Bangkok was shown with the most affluent middle class, earning an average of $1,800 in household monthly income. Shanghai's middle class earns only an average of $500 and is more likely to spend bulk of their monthly income on food than other consumer items.
