Determined of Tunbridge Wells

Article Abstract:

It will not be possible for any other supermarket chain to win a price battle with Wal-Mart, according to Asda Chmn Archie Norman. He believes that Asda's competitors will only be successful by adopting unique strategies, rather than competing directly. He regards himself as a businessman, even though he is now Conservative MP for Tunbridge Wells, England, and shadow minister for Europe. He regards managing turnarounds as the most exciting and rewarding activity in business. He emphasizes that he is committed to seeing Asda through a transitional period as it adjusts to being owned by Wal-Mart.

Room at the top

Article Abstract:

There is an increasing awareness among the UK's leading companies that leadership skills must be given a very high priority. This is particularly the case as a growing number of companies experience difficulties with replacing their chief executive. Specific leadership training can play a valuable role, but it is widely recognized that direct experience is extremely important in teaching leadership skills. The most successful leaders are those who show social intelligence, being able to listen to people and share their concerns.

Carry on consultants

Article Abstract:

The UK management consultancy market is booming, but there are fears that there could be an excess of consultants, particularly in sectors such as change management, which is currently an industry buzzword. The growth in management consulting can be seen not only in the leading consulting groups such as Ernst and Young and Andersen Consulting, but also in the growing number of independent consultants. Critics believe that depending too heavily on consultants can weaken a business and hold back the natural growth of a company.
