Article Abstract:

Due to the new packaging law, Japan is to create recycling capacity for plastic containers and packaging. From 2000, Japan will not only recycle PET bottles, but all kinds of plastic bottles. Until 2000, Japanese steel company NKK is to develop a technology to use plastic waste in the crude iron production of its subsidiary Keihin Works. It will use know-how of Deutsche Gesellschaft f r Kunststoff-Recycling (DKR). For tests, Hitachi is importing 33.000 tons of German plastic waste, collected by Duales System Deutschland (DSD). The waste is delivered over a period of 30 months in weekly shipments.

The Hungarian market for consumer packaging

Article Abstract:

The most advanced consumer packaging market in the former eastern Europe can be found in Hungary. With sales amounting to 616,000 tons in 1995, a 13% increase when compared to 1991 levels, the Hungarian consumer packaging market expanded faster than both retail sales and the economy in general from 1991 to 1995. The dominant sector is plastic packaging, accounting for 56% of the market in terms of value and 38% in terms of volume in 1995. The country's consumer packaging market is expected to grow by 13% in real value and 10% in volume from 1996 to 2000.

Consumer packaging in Europe's major markets
