Direct shipping and the dynamic single-depot/multi-retailer inventory system

Article Abstract:

Simulation studies of the single item inventory routing problem were conducted to find which shipping policies could optimize transportation in a single-depot/multi-retailer inventory system. Under conditions with an independent stochastic stationary demands, linear inventory costs and backlogging at the retailers over an infinite horizons, simulation yielded direct shipping as the optimal shipping policy.
