Disappointing earnings hurt FDX stock

Article Abstract:

FDX Corp. saw its share value fall after the company posted lower-than-expected earnings for the first-quarter of 1999. FDX posted $159 million (153 million euros) in net income for the fiscal quarter. Earnings reached $149 million and revenues improved from $4.08 billion to $4.32 billion. Analysts had predicted that the company would report earnings of approximately 54 cents per share. FDX's quarterly earnings amounted to 52 cents per share.

Ryder System names Swienton as its president

Article Abstract:

Gregory T. Swienton has been named as Ryder System Inc.'s new president and chief operating officer. The appointment of Mr. Swienton completes a shuffling in the company's management level. Mr. Swienton will be replacing M. Anthony Burns. Mr. Burns will keep the posts of chairman and chief executive. Mr. Swienton is a former senior vice president with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp.
