Displacing the grid

Article Abstract:

British architects are much more interested in construction than their French counterparts, according to French architects Odile Decq and Benoit Cornette, who are very keen to gain work in the UK. Architects in the UK also make extensive use of steel, while French architects hardly use this material at all. They are interested in the links between structure and the construction of space, and favour steel for its precision and rigour. Their buildings show a concern with the displacement of the body in the space.

Building without tears

Article Abstract:

A background as an architect makes it easier for Robin Ellis, founder of Robin Ellis Design Build, a building contractor, to understand the needs of architects. He accuses architects of losing sight of the overall project sometimes, but points out that this is due to weakness, rather than arrogance. He believes that architects should take firmer control of projects, making clear to clients what the implications of changes may be.
