Author of seminal book on disabled design recants

Article Abstract:

Selwyn Goldsmith's new book, Designing for the Disabled: The New Paradigm, rejects the prevailing emphasis on special provisions for disabled people, arguing that designers should aim for access for all. Goldsmith is critical of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) which he feels is a poor copy of the Americans' Disabilities Act. He advocates eliminating the building access part of the DDA, in favour of a revised Part M of the Building Regulations.
