Domestic appliances and audio visual equipment in Italy

Article Abstract:

Italian consumption of domestic appliances is declining, but the export market is healthy. Italian consumption of white goods fell by 7% in 1996 to L3,805 billion, but exports increased by 4% to L9,495 billion. This export total accounts for 80% of Italian production of white goods. Consumption of brown goods declined for the 6th year in succession, and by a greater percentage at 12%. Government austerity measures have been an important factor in the poor performance of the domestic appliance sector, and these measures look set to continue.
