Domestic consumer stocks in Asia attract: fund firms sees a trend in local issues as vacuum creates opportunities

Article Abstract:

The uncertainty surrounding the future of Asian economies has made most fund managers reluctant to abandon export companies for firms that sell to local consumers. However, Singapore-based fund management firm Arisaig Partners (Asia) has countered this trend by investing in several firms that have little debt, sufficient cash flow and effective management. Among these are the Philippines' Alaska Milk and Singapore's Informatics Holdings.

Investors become choosy as Thailand bites the bullet

Article Abstract:

Financial analysts expect the value of stocks in Thailand to decline as a result of the government's decision to float the baht against other currencies. Other economic policies, however, such as the establishment of a foreign credit line, should mitigate that decline. Larger companies and those companies that have already seen their stocks decline are expected to provide the safest investments.
