Dorling Kindersley shuffles managers, divides two roles

Dorling Kindersley Holdings PLC, a publisher of educational and instructional materials, has named James Middlehurst as its new chief executive officer, replacing Peter Kindersley. Kindersley, who formerly served as chairman and chief executive officer, will stay on in the firm in the capacity of chairman in charged with the creative development aspect of the operations. Middlehurst will be tasked to handle strategy and oversee the company's operations. The reorganization of the management structure is part of the efforts of Dorling Kindersley to enhance distribution and its financial performance.

Dorling shares jump 17% on solid fiscal earnings

UK educational book and software publisher Dorling Kindersley PLC reported better-than-expected annual results, which caused the company's share price to soar. Cost-cutting measures and US book sales are the causes of the good results. The company said that pre-tax profits increased 17% to Pounds9 million ($15.1 million) for the year ending June 30, 1998, up from Pounds7.7 million in 1997.
