Sony's operating profits are down 44% this year, and the company is hoping to earn new revenues by marketing the Mini Disc, a portable, recordable CD player . Sony will also release approximately 500 pre-recorded music discs to be used with the system. This format is not likely to do well in the market. Other Sony business ventures are also discussed.
