Dredging destroys breeding grounds

Article Abstract:

Pierre Dachicourt, president of the Boulogne - sur - Mer fisheries committee has warned that dredging activities in the English Channel are destroying the sensitive breeding grounds. The aggressive dredging in English Channel promoted by British and French governments could cause disaster to the species of sea bass, scallops, squid and mullet, which use the area as the nursery.

Port Louis to gain a seafood base

Article Abstract:

Seven companies including Ferme Marine de Mahebourg Ltd., Thon des Mascareignes Ltee, Pelagic Process Ltd., and Mauritius Freeport Development Co. Ltd., have entered into an agreement with Mauritian government for developing Port Louis as a seafood center. These companies will concentrate mainly on tuna.

BC anger at no sockeye run

Article Abstract:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada has stopped the commercial fishing of Fraser River sockeye for this year. The adverse implication of this ban has irked the Salmon fishermen in the British Columbia. The fishermen fear substantial economic losses from the process.
