Drug firms say South Africa threaten's industry's rights

Article Abstract:

Major pharmaceutical companies from around the world are suing South Africa for allowing patented drugs to be imported at lower prices. These companies are challenging South Africa's law and constitution. Human rights and AIDS activists claim it is a case of rich drug companies attempting to protect valuable patent rights while South Africa needs an affordable way to fight the AIDS epidemic.

Daimler provides AIDS help to employees in South Africa

Daimler Chrysler South Africa Pty. Ltd., German-American car manufacturer Daimler Chrysler AG's South African subsidiary, introduced a corporate program to manage AIDS among employees and their dependents. Daimler Chrysler is now one of the biggest companies to offer AIDS drugs to its employees in sub-Saharan Africa.
