EU Commission approves the sale of Ralston to Nestle

Article Abstract:

Nestle S.A. passed the first regulatory barrier in its $10.1 billion (Euro11.53 billion) attempt to purchase Ralston Purina Co. when it won the European Commission's approval of the deal. The company has yet to pass approval by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

Chiquita stake of 6.6% disclosed by investor group

A minority share in Chiquita Brands International Inc. has been disclosed by an investor group. Consolidated Fruit Corporation Ltd. said that it owns 6.6% of Chiquita.
