EU agency presses U.S. aviation deal

Article Abstract:

European Union Transport Commissioner Loyola de Palacio has negotiated a deal on intercontinental landing rights with the United States. The deal, still under consideration by member states, would permit European airlines to fly to any American airport from a European Union airport, but it would forbid them from flying between U.S. destinations.

Commission seeks to negotiate pact on 'open skies.'(European Commission, airline industry; United States)

Article Abstract:

The European Commission (EC) is calling on governments in the European Union to allow it to negotiate an airline "Open Skies" treaty with the United States. The EC hopes that a single treaty will end the problem of existing landing rights for national carriers, which it says prevents trans-national airline mergers.

Airlines may be hurt by EU tax push

Article Abstract:

The airline industry could be seriously affected by a new European Union tax for international air travel. The tax comes as the airline industry is least able to withstand the hit caused by the taxation.
