EU and U.S. agree to align corporate-accounting rules

Article Abstract:

The European Union and the United States regulators are planning to bring their accounting rules more in sync, so that multi-national companies may operate more effectively in both Europe and the United States. The European Union is planning to make its accounting regulations more like those in the United States and then the United States Securities and Exchange Commission would allow companies based in the European Union to keep their own accounting standards when operating in the United States, probably by 2009.

Looking good through insurance

Article Abstract:

United States businesses that claim insurance after capital assets have been damaged or destroyed are encouraged by accounting rules to include the monies as an investment on the cash-flow statements of annual financial reports. This practice makes business finances look healthier.

SEC recommends U.S. accounting adopt new system

Article Abstract:

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has recommended a new approach to corporate accounting. The new "principle-based" approach is designed to prevent companies from issuing incorrect results that are still in compliance with accounting regulations.
