EU criticizes Italy for leveling field to protect Alitalia

Article Abstract:

British Airways has filed a complaint with the European Union i n response to a ruling by Italy's civil aviation authority that requires foreign airlines to raise ariline ticket fares to meet that of Italy's national air line Alitalia . The European Commission has criticized Italy for its effort to protect Alitalia from foreign competitors and will rule on the issue in the weeks ahead.

Ryanair's prospects hurt by EU ruling: low-cost airline market faces setback as decision limits small-airport pacts

Article Abstract:

The European Union ruled that aspects of a deal between a Belgian airport and Ryanair Holdings PLC are illegal, requiring the airline to repay approximately one third of the monetary incentives it received since setting up a base there, a total of about euro 4.5 mil. Implications of an appeal and impact on securities and ticket prices are discussed.
