EU launches initiative for greener airplanes: 'clean sky' program would help aviation reduce pollution

Article Abstract:

A $2.13 bil public-private proposal for reducing pollution caused by airplanes has been raised by the European Commission. Half of the funds would come from European Union subsidies, the other half from companies that include Dassault Aviation S.A., Thales S.A., Rolls-Royce Group PLC, a division of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., and Airbus S.A.S. The proposal, called the "Clean Sky" program, would fund the development of more efficient engines and airflow-adapting wings.
