EU probes U.K. bank rescue

Article Abstract:

The competition commission of the European Union is examining whether the support given to Northern Rock PLC by the UK government will violate the EU's state aid limits. The EU restricts state aid to a six-month period; however, analysts have indicated that the Bank of England's financial involvement with Northern Rock may exceed that time period.

EU plans no new regulations to govern hedge-fund sector

Article Abstract:

A European Union official has said there are no immeadiate plans to alter the regulations of hedge funds. Hedge funds will be monitored in a more proactive approach although it was found that the mutual funds sometimes were found "testing the boundaries" of appropriate market rules.

Slovakia urges EU to revise criteria to join the Euro Zone
