EU's insurers say rule is hurting the economy

Article Abstract:

A new accounting regulation of the insurance industry may be hurting the European Union economy. "Mark to market" is a regulation that requires investment portfolios to be revalued every year rather than holding an historical value on the books. The regulation is supposed to increase transparency yet it restricts regional businesses and may discourage consumers from investing in stocks.

AIG, regulators discuss settlement

Article Abstract:

American International Group Inc. of the United States is in talks with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and United States regulators concerning inflated financial reports. The insurance giant is the center of a civil-fraud case and a partial settlement is expected by the end of the month.
