The government of Indonesia forecast's 8% economic growth and the stock market is booming as the country begins the boisterous campaign for its general elections. The case of unemployment remains a problem while elections now add to uncertainty.

Indonesia: muddling along

The economic growth in Indonesia, which is estimated to be at 4.5 % for 2004, is not as high as expected. The rise in inflation following the weakening of the rupiah and low investments is regarded as key causes for slow economy.
