Enemy within: defence

Article Abstract:

The $35.5 billion currently allocated to the British armed forces is enough to contribute to the nation's defense of itself or allies because the military has sensible policies. However, since about half the troops must be stationed in Northern Ireland, further cuts could damage defense.

New Labour's model army

Article Abstract:

Britain's ruling Labor Party is conducting a strategic defense review to reassess military policy and determine required levels of defense spending. As a percentage of GDP British defense spending is already as low as it has been since the 1930's.

Cutting Britain's defence

Article Abstract:

The Labor Party says it will review defense spending in the UK if it takes power in the next elections. This review is needed, which ever party wins. Spending should no longer be cut across the board, but just where it is needed.
