Policy up in the air

Article Abstract:

The US delegation's suggestion that a 'binding medium-term emissions target' be reached by all participants to the 2nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change left the country committed to reducing post-2000 gas emissions. Although no targets and implementation measures have been agreed upon, the exclusion of developing countries from such commitments will lower the US' economic and industrial competitiveness because even reducing emissions to 1990 levels by 2010 will require a carbon tax of $125 per ton.

High time for the circuses to stop

Article Abstract:

NASA should return to its original goal of exploring the Solar System and stop pursuing grandiose but purposeless projects such as the Freedom space station. For too long NASA has cut back on basic research in favor of such large-scale, costly manned projects because the publicity they generate helps to win funding from Congress. Unfortunately, NASA's tendency to overcommit itself causes these projects to produce embarrassing disasters such as the Challenger accident.

Enter the Professional Touch to Micrographics

Article Abstract:

Vector Graphics Processor (VGP) is a graphics product developed by Digisolve to interface with the Apple. VGP differs from other microcomputer graphic systems in that it performs graphic operations in hardware rather than software. VGP is more precise and faster in producing graphics than software-based systems. The card plugs into any slot and is completely independent of Apple's normal hi-res graphics so a separate monitor is required to display the VGP graphics.
