Estim trop cher, KPN est contraint de r duire substantiellement ses prix

Article Abstract:

Cuts in charges dictated by OPTA, the Dutch telecommunications regulator, will result in KPN, the Netherlands based telecoms operator, losing one third of its operating profits (Fl 1bn). OPTA believes that KPN makes too much profit on, zonal and interzonal calls, therefore it has ordered that charges on zonal communications be cut by a quarter, and on interzonal communications, by one third over the next three years <1998-2001>. Furthermore, charges from the fixed telephone network towards mobile phones will be cut by 10-15%. On the other hand, subscription charges are expected to rise. KPN are very much against the enforced cuts, pointing out that total earnings will be beneath the European average. The cuts will, however, benefit the consumer, particularly those that use the telephone frequently, and Internet users.

AUSTRIA: AUSTRIAN POWER FOR PRINZHORN PAPERMILLS

Article Abstract:

The paper producer group controlled by the Austrian industrialist Thomas Prinzhorn has announced an agreement with E&S on the delivery of 130 GWh of electricity to the Austrian mills of the group. German Energie Baden-Wurttemberg had been negotiating about deliveries to Mr Prinzhorn's group. The deal should mean savings of 50% in the electricity bills of the paper maker. Steweag thus loses the contract to supply electricity to the Brigl & Bergmeister mill in Niklasdorf, Austria. The German mill in Troisdorf will continue to be supplied by Bayernwerk. E&S is the electricity trade joint venture of EVN and WienStrom.
