Snatching defeat from victory

Article Abstract:

The international community regards President of Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic, as the only figure preventing a peaceful resolution to end the Kosovo crisis. However, in Apr 1998, he was forced to accept a referendum that 90% of Serbs reject. He was also forced to accept Richard Holbrooke as the mediator in the dispute. Despite these problems facing Milosevic, he still enjoys widespread support because a majority of Serbs believes he saved them from NATO bombing.
