European markets: prepared soups: company profiles: Bestfoods/CPC International

Article Abstract:

Bestfoods, the erstwhile CPC International, manufactures the Knorr brand of prepared soups, which also covers bouillon and related dried soups. In 1997, Bestfoods' Knorr brand enjoyed overall volume sales of 39% in France and 74.9% in Italy, while 33% by value is achieved in Germany and 22.5% by volume is gained in Spain. Rapid growth via intensive development of global and regional operations has been the aim of Bestfoods, which gained over 67% of company-wide revenues from net sales of its European operations in 1997. However, Bestfoods experienced a 14.7% decline in net sales in fiscal 1997 because of the sale of its corn-refining business on Dec. 31, 1997.
